Critical Friend
Gerri acts as a critical friend for Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museums Wales as part of its More and Better: Your Museum, Your Community programme. The long-term aim of this programme is to develop community agency as a USP at Amgueddfa Cymru; to model what this way of working looks like in practice for cultural institutions in Wales and beyond and to direct the museum’s work in civic leadership.
She facilitates an Action Learning Set comprising staff from different areas of the museum; this works to support staff delivering strands of the programme share and learn from each others' experience and ask challenging questions about the work. She also works with the Senior Management Team and the Joint Executive Group of the museum on corporate actionswhich strengthen its strategic direction. For example, all museum staff and Trustees have been working on articulating explicit values for the organisation and identifying practical behaviours which demonstrate those values. They have also been developing more collaborative and streamlined planning processes.
